Where you'll feel the difference
Eating out. A relaxed meal for two at a good local restaurant costs a fraction of what you'd pay in a British city. Street food and market eating are wonderful and inexpensive.
Fresh produce. Markets brim with tropical fruit, vegetables and fish at prices that make the UK supermarket feel like a distant memory.
Household help. Domestic help and gardening are far more affordable and completely normal here, giving families back time as well as money.

The trick is to live locally. Families who embrace Mauritian produce, markets and rhythms see the biggest savings; those who try to replicate a UK shopping basket see the least.
